|Join me in my efforts to support Arthritis Foundation, Pacific Region!|
|Did you know that there are over 100 types of arthritis and joint conditions? I didn't until deciding to ride the California Coast Classic. This is a 570 mile bicycle ride and fundraiser from San Francisco to Los Angeles, CA, September 9-16, 2017 sponsored by The Arthritis Foundation and Amgen.|
I have family members and friends who struggle with some of the arthritic illnesses-- fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, degenerative disc disease, bursitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, lupus, lyme disease, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, spinal stenosis, and tendonitis--just to name a few! I was amazed to see how many diagnoses arthritis includes. Symptoms of most forms of arthritis vary among different people. Many symptoms of one form of arthritis are common to another, making the disease especially tricky to diagnose.
Fortunately I have been blessed good physical health and strength for most of my life, although I do contend with the arthritic hallmark symptoms of stiffness and inflammation in my neck, back, hips, knees, and right shoulder. It will be a challenge for me to complete the 570 mile ride (ave. 71 mi./day for 8 days over rolling California hills) and I am dedicated to riding the training miles and fundraising ($3500 minimum) to complete the challenge while I still can, for those who cannot. Also, my Team-Amgen friend, Bob Johnson, has ridden the event for the past few years and has finally convinced me to participate this year! The California Coast is one of my very favorite parts of the U.S. to visit.
We all know someone who struggles with some form of this disease. As you think of loved ones--family and friends, or maybe it's you--who endure the often-painful symptoms of arthritis, I am asking you to financially support my efforts in any increment to fund research and treatments of this illness. Thank you!
