|Carter is my 6-year-old son and he has juvenile arthritis. That is why I have committed to riding my bike 525 miles from San Francisco to Los Angeles from September 9th to September 16th, 2017. Please support our fundraiser to help find a cure.|
Carter was diagnosed with Juvenile Ankylosing Spondylitis on January 6th, 2014, although he's lived with constant medical attention since July of 2013 due to bouts of unexplained pain. Carter receives monthly infusions at the hospital to treat his arthritis, which take 4 - 6 hours each. He is required to see his rheumatologist every 4 - 8 weeks and his ophthalmologist every 6 months to ensure that inflammation in his body is not doing permanent damage to his joints and eyes. As you can imagine, this is a tough task for an active 6-year-old boy. Despite all of this, Carter has maintained a positive outlook on life and has shown those around him what true strength is.
Carter has been responding very well to treatments over the last year, but that can change at any moment and we've met so many other children with JA that have not been as fortunate. This is why we have committed to joining forces with the Arthritis Foundation, to raise donations for better treatment options, raise awareness that kids get arthritis too, and to one day find a cure so that kids like Carter can run and play freely without constant pain.
Please consider helping us reach our goal by making a donation in honor of Carter today.
