April 27, 2017 - Route Update Announcement! 2017 Route Update - A "Collector's Edition" CCC We've stayed in constant contact with CalTrans and learned that the estimated completion of the Pfeiffer Bridge reconstruction in Big Sur is mid to late September, which, unfortunately, is too late for our ride.†The good news is, there's a gorgeous alternate route that we scouted with Sentio Cycling and the 2017 CCC will be an epic, once-in-a-lifetime edition. We will return to our original route in 2018.
The 2017 route, pending final permitting, showcases John Steinbeck's California and boasts sweeping views of pastures, wineries, mountains, and rivers.†
On Day 3, we'll warm up on Monterey's famed 17-Mile Drive, and then head to new CCC territory in Carmel Valley. Riding along the Salinas River past trees draped in Spanish Moss, we'll see hidden canyons and arrive for an overnight in King City after 83 miles and 4,600 feet of climbing.†
On Day 4, our ride will head to Paso Robles, home of hot springs and world-class wineries. Along the 65-mile/4,500' elevation route, we'll ride through hills and valleys of the foothills of the Santa Lucia Mountains. On Day 5, we'll reunite with the traditional route to Oceano, climbing 4,200' over 70 miles.
Our 2017 route, with about 45 incremental miles and an additional elevation gain of 2,700', will be memorable, rewarding, and a true collector's edition.
